Teta means grandma in Arabic. I didn’t grow up seeing my grandma often since she lived in Amman, Jordan, but somehow she was always present in our home. My mom carried her with her in everything, especially in the way she set the table and the food she made for us.
She would recreate the same meals, the same little plates, the same feeling of abundance and care. Figs, olives, bread, jam, everything laid out in a way that felt warm and familiar. It was her way of bringing a piece of her own mother into our lives, even from far away.
This painting is about that connection. It’s about how love gets passed down without needing to be physically close. The colors are bright and full because that’s how those moments felt to me. Full of life, full of care, full of something deeper than just food.
